A bit of paper history…

бумага картонVery often we use things, with absolutely no hesitation on the question, what are they made of or who their creator is. Breaking and discarding the package of just received gifts, we do not think that this wrapping paper has a very long history of creation!

Historically suggested is that, the word “paper” comes from the Tatar - bumug, which means “cotton”. Paper is a very ancient invention, which was known even in ancient China. It is a Chinese Pai Lun in 105 AD was the first to come up with the paper. And it was then produced as follows: pieces of wool, extremely silky, rags, old fishing nets, pounded and thrown into the pot with water, stirred, agitated until they become a homogeneous mass of watery porridge, which was scooped with a grid of bamboo. The sediment which remained on the grid, dried. As you can see, this principle of the production of paper goes on working in our time, only raw materials, scale, speed and the means of production have been changed.

In Ukraine, the paper began to be produced only in 14th century and until then they wrote mainly on parchment.

Paper mainly consists of thin and flat sheet or strip material, which consists primarily of cellulose fibers (wood pulp, recycled stock, and other additives). Many paper mills since the mid 19th century began to use waste paper as the main or the only raw material for paper manufacturing. More than 30% of paper produced in the world is made of recycled paper.

Vegetable fibers, which paper is being made of, have a length of 1-2 mm and a diameter of about 25 microns. The weight of paper per square meter is about 250 grams.

It is interesting to underline that changing technology of manufacturing, finishing and molding, as well as the nature of fibers and their treatment, we can entirely change the properties of paper such as: white, plasticity, smoothness, absorbency, cleanness, strength of the surface layer. Today it is difficult to name any sphere of human activity where no paper is used. Look around, it surrounds us everywhere! Even notwithstanding the giant development of the electronics, the future still remains in paper.

Today, they are still paper and cardboard what is the most common and familiar packaging.

Thanks to its multifunctional nature and relative cheapness wrapping paper is always in demand in industry and services.

Of course there were times when the paper was very expensive, even for printing books, and even the thought of using it “off-label” could not come into anyone’s mind. Later they started to produce a special kind of paper for packaging: gray, rough - for daily goods, and delicious - for gifts, special parchment and wax paper was used by grocers. Even today the production of paper for packing small things in the “old fashioned way” exists and develops.

Colored paper with printed patterns on them, the plot of which can be infinitely varied, was of the greatest interest.

Keeping in step with the progress, the manufacturers do not stop to develop and to invent the new advanced types of paper products. For example, a combination of paper with plastic resulted in the birth of new writing materials that can serve unusually long; paper very often replace tissue in many products: wedding dresses, baby diapers, medical gowns and disposable towels.
